Obituary:
Mr. John Larry Terrell of Columbus and formerly of Zebulon and Williamson, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 29, 2010. He was 68. John was born on June 26, 1942, to the late Horace Parks Terrell and Claire Hardee Terrell and was raised in East Point, Georgia. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1965 with a BA in psychology, he continued his education at West Georgia College where he received his Masters and Specialist Degrees in Special Education. In 1970 he married Margaret Jaccino and they had a daughter, Chelsea Marie and a son, Jonathan Parks. The family moved to Pike County where he taught Special Education students for many years. In 1992-1993, he was named “Teacher of the Year.” The family moved to Columbus in 1992 where he taught and retired from the Muscogee County School System. After retirement, John continued working in the Early Intervention Program with toddlers and their parents as well as teaching English and math at Columbus Technical College. John was a member of Waldrop Memorial Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and assisted with youth activities. John was well known for his gentle spirit and his talent as an accomplished harmonica player, performing with many area bands in the Southeast. He was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jean Jaccino Terrell; daughter, Chelsea Marie Terrell Burgan and her husband William Michael Burgan; son, Jonathan Parks Terrell; Chelsea’s children, Cori, Laban, and Kate Hart; cousin/sister, Robin Bullard Hawkins and her son, Steven Hawkins of Simpsonville, SC; cousin/brother, Lt. Col. Richard C. Bullard (retired) of Spanish Fork, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, Michael A. Jaccino and Gretchen Vandewater, and their sons, Colin, Cory and Tommy Jaccino; special friend and caregiver, Rosie Carey; and many beloved cousins and friends.
